FUDO Super Ocean Open Hooks are commercial-grade open gape hooks. This shape commonly referred to as a Hayes hook, is named after the shape's pioneer, Capt Roddy Hayes. It was Hayes that in the 80s made Madeira famous for its first-class fishing when it became known for the 'Jurassic Park' size Blue Marlin. It was here where Roddy tested and developed the Hayes style hook. With most catches exceeding 750lb and many granders, the hook needed to set well and go the distance.
The Super Ocean Hayes Open Hook features a slight bend. Combined with their super sharp conical point, they provide excellent grasping capabilities for quick and solid hookups, whether trolling or dropping sword baits.
These hooks carry the Super Ocean designation. This extra strength is achieved through heavier gauge wire, each size hook leveraging the gauge of the next size up, which adds approximately 0.25mm to the diameter. Once constructed, we adjust the time and temperature for the tempering process to achieve added strength. These hooks are forged and sharpened by hand one by one in Japan to exacting standards. Once production is complete, the hooks go through a passivation treatment which adds additional corrosion resistance.
